Why the BCS needs to leave.
You would think with the recent success of this tournament that other collage sports would get it. Yet every year the BCS leaves the Best Collage Sport (football) in shambles. Wondering who, where, when, and why only two schools should have the chance to face off in competition for the title #1, the college football world settles for the Bowl system amid countless calls for a playoff from everyone from the President to college football coaches. The critics bring up valid points that I will quickly disintegrate
· The addition of a playoff would mean the regular season is meaningless
· “There’s nothing else like bowl week”
· A tournament would mean more stress on players in the class room and on the field.
· There’s no good way to select all the championship caliber teams
· Taking the bowls away would mean that only 6 teams get a postseason
Ok that’s their side, here is mine. 6 Teams, two with byes, Winners play winners till we have a champion. Now if your telling me that being in the top six is easy Pickens, and the regular season is meaningless your just stupid. Likewise if you say Bowl week would be as good as a 3 week tournament starting in December and ending on New Year’s Day your ignorant. I always like this next one; the big guys who run the show have no problem sending the smaller schools out on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the school week to improve ratings but when it comes to a couple more games on the weekend, this would overload the programs. Let the programs speak for themselves I GUARANTEE if you ask any player who’s team was left out of a chance to be #1 they would NOT be complaining about a homework assignment, they would want to play. Not only that this schedule would actually shorten the season by a week because of the 3 week period between the regular season and the BCS when all college football does is sit and twiddle their thumbs about what could’a would’a should’a happened at the end of the season. Taking away the bowls would not be bad for the teams that didn’t make, you keep the bowls and have any team that didn’t make it be selected in the normal process; it be just like an NIT. It might not be perfect John Swofford but it’s a heck of a lot better then what you got right now.
